Governance and CSR Management

Our Approach to CSR

CSR Basic Policy

Hitachi Chemical has established the Hitachi Chemical Group Identity, a globally shared structure of our philosophy and values, to strengthen our group’s teamwork beyond regions and business fields. The Group has had the mission of "contributing to society through the development of superior technologies and products" on the basis of Hitachi's founding values of "Pioneering Spirit," "Sincerity" and "Harmony," with the aim of realizing the Hitachi Chemical Group Vision.

Amid growing attention placed on corporate CSR activities, the Hitachi Chemical Group Codes of Conduct were established in 2010 and revised in 2018. In pursuit of our Mission under the leadership of top management, we will thoroughly implement these Standards to ensure that we behave proactively on the basis of corporate ethics and compliance, in accordance with “Basics and Ethics.”

The Hitachi Chemical Group Codes of Conduct and the Code of Conduct Handbook

In 2010, the Hitachi Chemical Group established the Hitachi Chemical Group Codes of Conduct, a set of specific standards of behavior applicable to all employees. The Codes set forth actions and rules that must be followed by all employees of the Hitachi Chemical Group. Under the leadership of top management, we will thoroughly implement these Standards to ensure that all our business activities are conducted on the basis of corporate ethics and compliance, in accordance with “Basics and Ethics.” In 2018, we revised the Codes in light of new social and business challenges, such as the development of a sustainable society, and reorganized the overall structure to make the Codes easier to understand.

In 2012, we drafted a handbook for the Hitachi Chemical Group Codes of Conduct so that each and every employee can gain a deeper understanding of the Codes, how to ensure that the contents of the Codes are reflected in their daily responsibilities and community life, and how to rigorously uphold them. The handbook is distributed to all employees of the Hitachi Chemical Group. It was first issued in Japanese, English, and Chinese (simplified and traditional Chinese), and in 2016 a Vietnamese version was added.

With the revision to the Hitachi Chemical Group Codes of Conduct, we are also revising the handbook so that it will guide corporate employees when they have questions or are uncertain in decision-making. We will distribute it to all employees so that they can use it to practice corporate ethics and ensure legal compliance. The handbook contains easy-to-understand explanations of all items in the Codes of Conduct, providing specific examples and explaining the Hitachi Chemical Group’s CSR organization, ISO 26000, the Global Compact, and other related documents, so that employees can refer to it for help in clarifying any doubts or questions they may have about the behavior expected of them as a company employee.

During Hitachi Chemical Group Corporate Ethics and Compliance Month (October of every year), we raise awareness of compliance by having employees read through the handbook, hold meetings in their workplaces to deliberate case studies, and do self-evaluation to review their own attitudes and behaviors.
