Governance and CSR Management

Our Approach to CSR

CSR Promotion System

Hitachi Chemical ensures all divisions cooperate in advancing the Group’s CSR activities. In 2010, the Company launched a section to oversee and coordinate CSR activities. The section is mandated with running CSR programs across business divisions and in line with the CSR Medium-Term Roadmap: Stage 2 with organizations responsible for environmental safety, quality assurance, risk management, social contribution, and other CSR-related divisions as well as public- and investor-relations, branding and advertising, corporate export regulation & control, finance/HR units and administrative departments at the head office. Starting from April 2016, the Company will simultaneously draw up a mid-term action plan focusing on business and CSR as well as shift into a structure that promotes CSR activities as a part of its business strategy, in which the Management Strategy Headquarters and the Risk Management Center are operating in cooperation. In addition to its social contributions and CSR activities, in April 2017 Hitachi Chemical established an organization within the Management Strategy Headquarters dedicated exclusively to advancing business management that is rooted in the perspectives of society, the environment, and various stakeholders, as well as the planning and development of Creating Shared Value (CSV) across the Company. Hitachi Chemical is thus pursuing a management practice originating in its vision of materiality.

Starting in fiscal 2011, the Group Environment and CSR Committee meets every three months to share information on CSR-conscious management and CSR across the Group. These meetings are held on the same day as quarterly results meetings to provide an opportunity to discuss and decide on basic policies and important issues related to CSR activities throughout the Group. It is convened by the president and attended by senior management (executive officers, department heads, and representatives of Group companies inside and outside of Japan) of Hitachi Chemical. Committee meetings were held four times in fiscal 2016. Executive officers and others in senior management reported on the status of CSR-related goals achieved by their respective departments, and discussed measures to prevent recurrences of the most recent cases of industrial accidents and compliance infractions, as well as social contribution activities. The minutes of these meetings are distributed to all Group companies.
